On Saturday, May 15, we performed Johannes Brahms’ Liebeslieder Waltzes, a set of songs in 3/4 time for mixed chorus and piano four-hands, under the direction of Peter Steenblik, who assumes the position of artistic director at the beginning of our 2021-2022 season.

The program featured pianists Isabelle Areola and Hyunjoo Kim, as well as our women’s ensemble, conducted by Isabelle Peterson. The women sang a setting of “All Things Bright and Beautiful” by Philip Silvey, “Standchen” (Serenade) by Josephine Lang, and “An die Musik” (to Music) by Franz Schubert. After the women’s set and before the Brahms, Isabelle Areola performed “Thee Fantastic Dances” by Dmitri Shostakovich.

The performance took place on the patio behind Building 1 at Pensacola State College (100 College Blvd.), observing our pandemic protocols, singing in masks and standing six feet apart. Also, we asked that audience members wear masks, bring their own seating, and maintain social distancing.
